Originally a bland expanse of grass with the War Memorial in the centre, this Memorial Garden was created in 2002/3. The area around the War Memorial was extended, with additional paving and uplighters. The whole area was enclosed by a low fence and new paths were created.
The herbaceous beds near the wall at the Health Centre were planted by East Lothian Council.
This garden is a tribute to the generosity of local people. The long border parallel with the main road is a series of 21 triangular mini-gardens divided by box hedging. Each triangle, together with the basket trees which give a spectacular display in summer, is sponsored by local families and organisations in memory of loved ones.
The flower beds outside the fence are maintained by ‘Cockenzie and Port Seton in Bloom’ members.
All the benches are sponsored by local people.
